Last light

I have been photographing about every night for the last couple weeks. It is so hard to not fall into “trends” in photography or art for that matter and feel like you have to follow the masses. I every once in awhile will dig through old boxes of photographs and letters from when I was about 20 or 21 and my head was a little less congested with worries of bills, kids, etc etc. and just free to create.  I have had alot of fun working with light that I love working with people I love and remembering why I loved photographing people so much for the last 15 or so years. It is really about relationships to me and hopefully when they look back at the photos years and years from now it will bring them right back to that moment  of their life. Photography is like a dance to me when I am looking through the lens. Jack Leigh showed me one time one of his contact sheets and it was a shrimp boat that had sunk and he said  to me ” Do you see that bird on the pillar?”He told me he had to wait a couple frames for that bird to turn his head just right. That it was timing and the little things like that birds head made all the difference. He was right, I think of him often when I have the camera up to my eye and you are waiting waiting doing the tango between your eye and my subject and just like that click.

August 19, 2010 - 6:18 pm Pat Parr - Chris, you most definitely work magic with your camera. You always manage to capture the essence of these beautiful children; as their grandmother, I truly appreciate your talent and artistic eye. I can't wait to see the rest of the sampling that is here. Thank you, Pat Parr

August 20, 2010 - 11:46 pm Danielle Hobbs - You dance well, my friend :)

August 23, 2010 - 10:09 am Nate Henderson - The good news is this: the trends pass quickly but long lasting photography is hard and very very often a work of patience. And you're pretty darn good at it. Btw, I love that top image.
